Here at Daily Kos, we are a community of many, a community of party activists, a community that only wants to see a better America. Personally, I have a deep passion to see legislation that seeks justice for each and every citizen get passed. I want to see the issue of poverty addressed in coherent manner, to see that those sitting on death row are given every opportunity to justice in the court system, to see that women are not abused. In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."
Therefore, I hope to find my niche here at Daily Kos as well as add another aspect to my own blog, Faithfully Liberal, by bringing a Daily Action Diary. It will cover the gauntlet of issues from financial issues to violence and hopefully everything in between. I encourage you to read the issue below and take the appropriate action if you deem it necessary.
Today’s action item is from Sojourner’s:
At stake are billions of dollars for working families and poor children in the United States and around the globe.
For years now, people of faith have been fighting bad budgets that prioritize tax cuts and military spending over social supports for the poorest in our society. This year, Congress has an opportunity to pass a budget that puts people first.
Click here to tell your representative to vote for a budget that honors our commitments to the "least of these."
While Sojourner’s is typically a place for people who self-identify with religious views, people who self-identify as non-religious are encouraged to still petition their representatives to pass a budget that sets our priorities in a direction towards justice.
Now the U.S. House of Representatives is preparing to vote on its own budget resolution, which must match or exceed the Senate's commitment to these pressing priorities. If we can spend $10 billion per month in Iraq, surely we can spend that much per year on health care for needy children.
We have 46 million Americans without health insurance, 33 million who do not know where their next meal is going to come from and 3/4 of a million people without a place to live. Please take the time to send a message to your representatives asking them to reevaluate our nation’s priorities and make a commitment to help those struggling to make ends meet.
Please take action here.
