Daily Action Diary: 2007 Farm Bill

Here at Daily Kos, we are a community of many, a community of party activists, a community that only wants to see a better America. Personally, I have a deep passion to see legislation that seeks justice for each and every citizen get passed.  I want to see the issue of poverty addressed in coherent manner, to see that those sitting on death row are given every opportunity to justice in the court system, to see that women are not abused.  In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Therefore, I hope to find my niche here at Daily Kos as well as add another aspect to my own blog, Faithfully Liberal, by bringing a Daily Action Diary.  It will cover the gauntlet of issues from financial issues to violence and hopefully everything in between.  I encourage you to read the issue below and take the appropriate action if you deem it necessary.

Today’s action item is from Oxfam America:

This year, Congress will debate a new Farm Bill, which for five years will set policies that could either help small farmers at home and abroad—or keep them struggling.

The current Farm Bill represents a broken promise to America's farmers and rural communities, and it falls short of meeting its obligations to families that depend on food stamps and conservation programs that protect rivers and streams. To make things worse, the current Farm Bill actually hurts poor farmers in developing countries.

Please contact your members of Congress today using the letter below and ask them to create a Farm Bill that reduces misguided subsidies and shifts those resources to support the programs that really need the money.

This kind of legislation sends a message of a nation’s priorities.  A Farm Bill for 2007 that sets out to provide proper support of America’s farmers and reduce the misguided subsidies that plague so much of legislation year in and year out.

We can urge Congress to pass a bill that encourages sustainable development, conservation and focus more attention on renewable sources of energy.

Take action here.

Cross posted at Faithfully Liberal.
